Pilling Test- skirt

The fabric we tested was a woolen fabric we use for making skirts. To make sure we are working with wool, we made a burning test of the yarns. For this test, we used 5 cm of yarn. The yarn burnt slowly and had very fine ashes. The typical smell of burning hair indicated that we are using a protein/animal fibre. We studied the fibres and because they were curled, it told us that we are working with wool.

After the burning test we continued with pilling. For this test we cut out 6 circular samples of the fabric and used them in pairs on the pilling machine. We set the machine so that the first sample would be tested on 125 rubs, second one on 500 rubs and the last one on 2000 rubs. As you can see on the pictures bellow, the pilling is barely or not visible. On the scale of 1 to 5 (1=very pilling, 5=no pilling) we can say that first two samples with 125 and 500 rubs can be rated with 5. The last one with 2000 rubs shows small imperfections, therefore we rated it with 4. This tests indicates that we were working with a high quality material and could be used for a skirt that would last for a very long time.
